The Adventures of King the Wonder Poodle

Do Dogs Have Nine Lives too?

I have been wondering if dogs have nine lives like cats. My daughter, Tara has a toy poodle named King and we have had him for almost a year now. King has come close to death four times now and I am wondering how many lives he has left.

The first incident came when King was 7 weeks old. I had asked Tara to take him out to the bathroom and while she had him outside he found some chili that I had cooked that night.Tara must of left her bowl outside. King found it and ate it and it liked to have killed him. He threw up every 15 minutes all night long. I got him in to the vet the next morning , they gave him a shot and told me to give him Pepto-Bismol. After that he quit throwing up but he was lifeless. The next day I called the vet and told them that he was still sick and wouldn’t eat or drink. I had to take him back to the vet and they had to give him stuff to bring his sugar back up. After that he was fine.

The second incident came when King was about 5 months old. I was at the computer doing homework and King was at my feet playing with one of his toys. The next thing I knew he came flying out from under my chair a whining and barking like something had killed him. I first thought was I had run over his paw with my chair, but then I realized I didn’t move my chair. I got under my desk and got to looking what he had done to get hurt and I found it, my fan cord had been chewed almost in two. After I saw what he had done I knew then that he got electrocuted. The next day he had a bald spot on his back as big as a fifty-cent piece. The hair has grown back know but it has grown in brown and he is a white poodle.

The third incident was a couple months later when King was 7 months old. I had taken Tara to catch the bus over at my mom’s house and King wanted to go with us, so we let him. After Tara got on the bus, I was just sitting around talking and I noticed King was acting funny. He was sort of staggering around and he would go get him some dog food and he would chew with his eyes closed. I told my dad that King looked like he was stoned. I told them that I think he must have eaten something he shouldn’t have. Then my brother spoke up and said that he dropped one of his blood pressure pills the night before and never did find it. I called the vet and told them that I was pretty sure he had eaten a blood pressure pill. They told me to pour peroxide down him until he vomited. Well we did that and he vomited and then I called the vet back and they said bring him in to get checked out. We took him to the vet and they ended up keeping him because his blood pressure was so low. They had to keep giving him blood pressure shots. That night I went and picked him up and he slept the rest of the night.

The fourth incident was last weekend and King is 10 months old. I had my brother Jesse, doing some work for me at my house while I had to run to town. As I got back and was going to pull in my driveway, a log truck was coming so I was going to wait until the log truck passed before I pulled into the driveway. Well King heard my car slow down and wantedto get out to greet me, but I was still in the road because of the log truck. Jesse got up to put King on his leash outside and before he got King on his leash, he jumped out of his arms and ran for my car. When he shot down the driveway and in the road, the log truck got him. It was a terrible sight; there he lay in the middle of the road. I had my brother to pick him out of the road and my dad started pecking on his heart because it quit beating. All of a sudden he started blinking his eyes. We rushed him to the vet and they checked him and couldn’t find anything broken and kept him all night. I went back the next morning and the vet seemed to think that he had just run into the tire of the log truck and it just knocked him out. He had taken a hard hit on the concrete and was sore for about a week, but he seems to be getting better everyday.

I just don’t know what is going to happen to that dog. He is always in to something and never still. I have always heard cats have nine lives, now I believe King does too. I do know he better slow down; he can’t have to many lives left.

KING AND THE EARRING
Around Christmas time, my only child Tara, came to me and asked if I, "would have her a baby brother or sister for Christmas. "I came up with the incredible idea to get her a puppy instead. We went to London Flea Market and bought a toy poodle. She named the little tiny dog, King. King brings Tara a lot of happiness. She always has someone to play with. In some ways they fight like brother and sister. He will go in her room and scatter toys and make the biggest mess everywhere, or so she says, "he’s the one that done it. "If she is asleep on the couch, he will jump up there and lick her face to wake her up. He can really get on her nerves.King is now seven months and Tara is seven years old and they are still a lot of company for each other and they still fight off and on. Wednesday morning Tara was getting ready for school and when she pulled off her pajama top, her brand new earring that she paid for with her own money, flew out of her ear and hit the floor. King saw it fall and before we could grab it, he grabbed it up in his mouth and took off running. We finally caught the dog and he was chewing on it. We tried to hold him down to get it out of his mouth but when we held his head back to get it out, he swallowed it. Tara was disgusted with him.Tara asked, “What do we do now?”I told her that she had to wait until he passed it and then she could get it back. She said “No way, not for no earring." I said I wouldn’t either. She must have changed her mind because this morning when she took King out to use the bathroom, she came back in and said “He didn’t pass it today, but maybe it will be in the next load”. I thought to myself, how gross! I would of never done that and I didn’t think she would either but the earrings she had in, I made her pay for them out of her own money. She said, “I have to get them back I gave a lot of money for them.” I have bought Tara a lot of earrings that were expensive and she kept losing them, This time, I made her buy that pair and as you can see she is more cautious with her things when it comes out of her own money.Stay tuned to find out if Tara found the earrings

Never Bite The Hand That Feeds You
My daughter has a dog and it is the meanest little pup I have ever seen. It bites my daughter all the time. Well, he is my daughter's pet but guess who feeds and takes care of him, ME. One day the dog was chewing on something he wasn’t supposed to and when I went to take it away from him, he tried to bite me. I said “Never Bite The Hand That Feeds You”.

How to House Break Your Dog

Melissa
4/13/2006

So you now have become a new owner of a puppy and your'e thinking what a mess I have gotten myself into. Don’t worry I have been in your shoes and I would like to share some ideas on how I housebroke our puppy.
When you buy your pet you need to buy a carrier or a cage to place your pet in at night and through the day. If you use the cage or carrier it teaches them to hold themselves and a dog will not use the bathroom in their bed.
Never let your pet roam from one room to another without supervision. Letting them wander where they want without surveillance they may decide to potty and soil your carpet.
Never leave your pet’s food or water bowl down. I always let my puppy eat twice a day and gave him water about three or four times a day. Then after eating or drinking, immediately take him outside to go to the bathroom.
When I take my pet to the bathroom I always put him on a leash and tell him to go potty and he knows what it means and finds a spot and goes.
Always take your pet out about every two hours even if you have not given him something to eat or drink.
If your puppy gets too disruptive it is o.k to put them in his cage for a nap. Try not to desert your puppy in its cage for more than 8 hours of a night to sleep, and just a couple of hours during the day for a nap.
If your puppy does have a mishap, you should never strike them. You need to tell them NO and put them outside for about 20 min. You need to instantly clean the soil spot with a cleaner. If you don’t clean the spot properly your puppy can smell it and go back to the same spot. If you spank your puppy the next time, they may go and hide to use the bathroom.
If your puppy leaves you a present get it up and take the dog and the present outside and put them both in the grass. The puppy will know thats were he is supposed to use the bathroom.
You can also give your pup a treat every time it uses the bathroom in the accurate spot.
If you are consistent and NEVER leave your pup unaccompanied to stroll through the house, it shouldn’t take any time to house break him.

Kids and the Truth

Mothers Day
When my daughter Tara was 3 years old, she and her daddy decided to make me a flower bed and plant some flowers to go in it. Tara was so excited to go pick out the flowers that she wanted to plant for me. I wasn’t so excited about it because I have a black thumb and kill every flower I get, but for Tara’s enjoyment I acted like I couldn’t wait for Mothers Day.
Mothers Day came and they made me leave for about two hours so I would be surprised when I came home. When I arrived home they had got the flowerbed done and the flowers planted. Tara had picked out some beautiful flowers. She was so proud of herself for the work her and her daddy had done. It was beautiful.
A week later Tara and I were outside, she was playing in the yard and I was reading the paper. After awhile I heard Tara yelling at the cat and when I looked to see what she was fussing over, she was chasing the cat with the broom. I yelled at her to leave the cat alone and asked why on earth she was trying to hit it with the broom. She said, “do you know what that cat was doing”, I said “no”, she said, “It was trying to use the bathroom in your flower bed”. I couldn’t help to laugh at her and she was destroyed. Tara said “Mom that cat was going to kill your flowers I planted, so now I’m going to kill that crazy old cat”. I told her, "You can’t kill that cat and the cat using the bathroom in the flowerbed will make my flower grow big and beautiful." I hated to lie to her but I was afraid that she would hurt the cat when my back was turned. The next day I would regret telling her a lie.
I had to work and Tara stayed with my mom while I worked. I come home and asked Mom if Tara had behaved that day. She said “You are never going to believe what that child had done today”, I said “knowing Tara it is un telling”, she said “we was outside today and Tara was playing and she disappeared on me, so I went to look for her and I caught her using the bathroom in my flower bed. I asked her” what are you a doing?”She looked at me and said “Mammaw I’m going to make your flowers grow big and beautiful”, I told her “Using the bathroom in the flowers will kill them and she argued with me that you said it will make them grow”. I couldn’t help but to laugh and I had to tell her the whole story.
Here is a good reason to why you shouldn’t lie to your children. I did have to tell her another lie and tell her only animals could use the bathroom in the flowers. Luckily she hasn’t done that no more and she don’t try to kill the cat.
